What was supposed to be a conversation on Jaya’s spectacular success in both “Taandob” and “Utshob” soon turned into a pseudo-political discussion on the future of women in the country. “Dear Maa” stars Jaya alongside Chandan Roy Sanyal in the lead roles, with an ensemble cast featuring Saswata Chatterjee, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and Malayalam actor Padmapriya Janakiraman. For anyone who grew up “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, “Utshob” is a warm wave of nostalgia. And even for viewers with no emotional ties to either Dickens or the 90s, this film still feels like a two-hour-long hug, a very warm one.
Six films were released across cinemas in Bangladesh this Eid. Among them, “Taandob”, starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, has led the charts from Eid day through the fifth day of the holiday. The film was released in 133 theatres nationwide, with midnight screenings (12am–3am) running in venues such as Chhaya Bani in Mymensingh, Rajtilok in Rajshahi, and Modhubon Cineplex in Bogura.
