Mother's Day

#Events / BRAC Bank TARA reframes the conversation on parenting: A shared journey of partnership

On the occasion of International Mother’s Day, BRAC Bank’s women-centred initiative TARA held an event that did not just celebrate motherhood or struggles of being a mother but gently pulled apart the structure surrounding it. The event titled “Parenting: A Shared Journey of Partnership” created space for a much-needed dialogue that was not about glorifying sacrifice but rather about asking why parenting still leans heavily, and often unfairly, on mothers and how partners can show up to share it.

ESSAY / On motherhood and Mahasweta Devi’s ‘Breast-Giver’

Three stars reflect on the women who shaped their lives and careers

In conversations with The Daily Star, actors Sumaiya Shimu, Shajal, and Tama Mirza opened up about the invaluable roles their mothers played in shaping not only their careers but also their lives.

Understanding mothers: A journey through time

This Mother’s Day, honour the quiet strength of moms whose actions shaped us — through discipline, love, and sacrifice — into who we are today, even if we only realised it once they were gone.

The Flying Slipper: A tribute to moms, discipline, and the gentle art of terror

This Mother’s Day, celebrate the iconic South Asian flip-flop — more than footwear, it was a symbol of maternal authority, discipline, and reflex training, shaping generations with precision throws, psychological warfare, and unforgettable love wrapped in chappal justice.

#Perspective / Dear pet moms, this Mother’s Day is yours too

Mother’s Day should honour all forms of motherhood, including pet moms who nurture animals with love, sacrifice, and care. From vet visits to emotional support, their devotion mirrors real parenting and deserves celebration too.

Cooking up memories: Food that remind of mother's love

Whether it's the taste of your grandmother's signature kachki macher chorchori, or a steaming pot of tehari prepared by your mother, the taste is tied to emotions and specific moments in time, making nostalgia hit hard.

The devaluation of the sacrificial mother

Even as she is glorified, her work is devalued.
