The Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie, a contemporary photography exhibition based in Germany, has been canceled following accusations of antisemitism related to social media posts by one of the curators. The cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Heidelberg in Germany, where the event was scheduled to take place, deemed the content as "antisemitic". The Biennale was originally slated to open in March 2024.
The fellowship provides a USD 50,000 stipend to begin or complete a proposed project followed by the publication of a book.
On November 10, Project 88 inaugurated Munem Wasif's second solo-exhibition at their gallery in Mumbai, India. The exhibition is titled "Kromosho"--'step by step' in Bengali--and features Wasif's body of work, which the artiste has developed over almost two decades. Munem Wasif’s image-based works often mix photographs with moving images, archive documents or collected paraphernalia to reveal notions of impermanence and insecurity. A major theme throughout his work, is the philosophy of leaving things open to interpretation.
Reetu Sattar and Munem Wasif, artists in different field, fell in love with each other for who they are, and what their professions are. Munem is a renowned documentary photographer while Reetu is a theatre actor, director and performance artist. They are happily married for five years, and have a two –and- a -half year old child. Ahead of Valentine's Day, Reetu spoke to The Daily Star about the journey the duo took together.
