Militants’ escape: 5 police personnel suspended
Five police personnel were suspended for negligence in discharging duties after two convicts sentenced to death for the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder was whisked away from a Dhaka court premises yesterday.
Jasim Uddin, deputy commissioner of Prosecution Division of DMP, confirmed it to The Daily Star.
The five suspended members of police are: Court Inspector Matiur Rahman, Sub-inspector Nahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, also in-charge of the prison cell of the CMM Court; Assistant Sub-inspector Mohiuddin, and constables Sharif Hasan and Abdus Sattar.
The two convicts -- Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran, and Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab -- were among eight militants sentenced to death by a Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in February last year for murdering Jagriti Publications publisher Dipan in 2015.
