The Tigers

The cup of our lives

As the 13th edition of the ICC ODI World Cup kicks off in Ahmedabad today, it is time we took a dive into what makes cricket so special to so many people around the world.

‘It’s all about having the belief’

An important figure behind Sri Lanka’s emergence as a cricketing force in the world, Hashan Tilakaratne is someone who possesses vast knowledge about the game. The former Lankan captain, who was an integral part of the 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan side, has been in charge of the Bangladesh women’s team since November 2022. During an exclusive interview with The Daily Star’s Abdullah Al Mehdi, the 56-year-old talked about the mindset and the relationship a coach needs to have with the cricketers, the recipe for success in the World Cup, and his expectations from the Tigers ahead of the mega event in India.

3-D improvement of the essence after mixed bag displays

Bangladesh’s performance in the Asia Cup was a mixed bag despite their painful exit from the tournament last night. The Tigers lost their opening fixture against Afghanistan despite putting up a fight with the ball until the last stages while the tumultuous exit against Sri Lanka saw their batting effort improve considerably but death-over nerves saw the match escape from them.

‘Tigers must establish bold intent quick’

Bangladesh have a stern test in their Asia Cup opener on Tuesday against Afghanistan and that they have to grab the proverbial bull by the horn right from the onset for success, reckons veteran coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim.

New coach for Tigers in Asia Cup, T20 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Sridharan Sriram, a former India cricketer and a long-term assistant coach of Australia, to lead the Bangladesh national team in the forthcoming Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.

Bijoy reveals Zim chasing 304 shocked Tigers

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Anamul Haque Bijoy revealed Bangladesh were shocked after hosts Zimbabwe chased a high target of 304 runs in the first match of the recently concluded three-match ODI series.

Smarter approach needed to save series

Before the first ODI, Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal was of the opinion that the Tigers were favourites going into the three-match series against Zimbabwe. But he did warn that Bangladesh would have to play their best cricket to beat the hosts.

We are experienced enough, says Sohan

Nurul Hasan Sohan considers the Tigers T20 squad ‘experienced enough’ and the new captain of the T20 side wants to imprint their own style in the format.

Afif determined to seize the day

Bangladesh batter Afif Hossain Dhrubo said he has no desire to look beyond the present as the Tigers began their first practice session in Zimbabwe on Thursday.
