‘Santosh’ to represent UK at Oscars 2025
The film, starring Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar in lead roles, premiered in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. According to Deadline, "Santosh" was selected by BAFTA, the organisation tasked with choosing the UK’s submission for the Oscars by the American Academy.

This Hindi-language movie, which had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, edged out “All We Imagine As Light” by Payal Kapadia. Kapadia’s film, initially viewed as the favourite following its critical success and Grand Jury Prize win at Cannes, lost out to Rao’s film in the Oscar race selection.
