The cabinet yesterday gave the final nod to the draft National Identity Registration Act-2023, which will allow the home ministry to issue national identity (NID) cards instead of the Election Commission, which has been doing it since 2006.
As part of its plan to complete providing smart NID cards to all voters by December next year, the Election Commission will go for a massive scale-distribution in 32 districts in the first week of next month.
