Boeing intends to cut almost 2,200 jobs in the US state of Washington, which is home to many of its oldest factories, according to a statement released Monday.
In the first 10 months of the year, Boeing said it delivered 305 airplanes, down from 405 in the same period last year
It originally involved six plaintiffs but until now all but one had settled, according to a source familiar with the case.
The contract includes a 38 percent wage hike, a $12,000 signing bonus and provisions to lift employer contributions to a 401K retirement plan and contain health care costs
64 percent of the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 rejected the contract, the union said on X
Boeing confirmed a tentative deal was reached and said it includes a 35 percent pay raise over four years and a one-time signing bonus of $7,000
The aviation giant must "reset our workforce levels to align with our financial reality," Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg said, adding that the cuts of 17,000 positions globally "will include executives, managers and employees."
About 33,000 Boeing workers in the Pacific Northwest have been on strike for nearly a month in a fight focused on higher wages and improved retirement benefits.
The union for striking Boeing workers said Friday that talks with the aviation giant "broke off" without agreement, after some 33,000 US employees walked out this month
