A Gangetic dolphin (Platanista gangetica), over seven feet long, is found dead in Halda River of Chattogram’s Raozan upazila.
A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive on the authorities concerned of the government to immediately take necessary steps to prevent killing Halda river dolphins and to protect them.
The sinking of a coal-laden vessel on Saturday has prompted the government to ban again the operation of all vessels in the Shela River, a dolphin sanctuary in the Sundarbans.
