A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed and another injured by miscreants in Sylhet city's Akhalia Tapobon Residential area on Saturday night.
The deceased was Jagotjhoty Talukder, former president of Madan Mohon College unit BCL, and resident of Akhaliaghat in the city.
Quoting witnesses, police said a gang of miscreants swooped on Taluker and Sylhet city unit BCL activist Jewel when they were returning home, leaving them injured around 9:30pm.
The attackers also set the victim's private car on fire.
The injured were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where Talukder died.
A sawmill and several shops were gutted in a devastating fire in Chandmari area of Barisal city on Saturday night.
