Although a sport, chess can very much be considered an art. Just like music and painting, it also a form of art and an amazing sport. Grandmaster Zia made me realise all of this. Zia was an extraordinary human being with global fame.

“I had nearly confirmed my championship win with two rounds in hand and was really happy about it. But now I am shocked and can’t find the words to express my emotions after the death of my beloved Zia sir,” Neer told The Daily Star yesterday.
I still can’t believe that I won’t get to hear Zia’s deep voice, his jokes and laughter anymore. His death has left a huge gap. He had become an inseparable part of our chess community.
“A friendly, big-hearted person, his simplicity, strong ethics and sincerity always inspired us," said Bangladesh’s fourth GM Abdullah Al Rakib.
Zia suddenly fell to the ground midway during a game against GM Enamul Hossain Razib at the Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall room at around 5:45 pm.
