Actress Jyotika Jyoti has questioned why the artistes who protested under the banner of the Visual Media Artistes’ Society against police and Chhatra League attacks on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movements remained silent when Rahul Ananda's home was set ablaze and vandalised.
The protest meeting was moderated by journalist Maksudul Haque Imu and began with a minute of silence to honour the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement. The gathering was marked by strong condemnations of the vandalism and attacks on cultural venues, as well as the targeted attack on the residence of musical artiste Rahul Anand, known for his involvement with the student movement.
The artists demanded swift action to protect citizens and end the violence that became rampant following the cessation of the former government body. They highlighted that miscreants have been setting fires, vandalising, and looting in various parts of Bangladesh, including state structures, police stations, and historical landmarks like Dhaka University's Swadhinata Chattar and the historical Shashi Lodge in Mymensingh.
As we are still counting down on our losses, the vandalism and destruction that took place at Joler Gaan frontman Rahul Ananda’s residence on Monday (July 5) afternoon has devastated many cultural activists and people at large.
The shows are scheduled to take place in West Bengal’s Dum Dum, Chakdaha and Haldia between January 3 to January 5, where the band will perform at the prestigious “Dum Dum Sangeet Mela” music festival’s fourth edition, officially scheduled from January 3 till January 7, as the only Bangladeshi band.
The popular Prachyanat drama “Koinya” is going to be staged on the stage of Bangladesh Mohila Samity in the Bailey Road area, after a long hiatus. The play will be screened tomorrow (November 18) at 7 pm. Murad Khan wrote the drama about the naïveté of the Sylhet-Sunamganj Haor area while it was directed by Azad Abul Kalam.
Rahul Ananda concluded on a serious note, “I don't actually know. I am just doing my work. Some of my work takes me to places, into some people's minds and lives, and that’s how I connect to people myself, spiritually and philosophically. That is the wonder of music and life for me, and I feel that is what connected us both.”
