Bangladesh ranked 93 out of 100 countries in the latest Global Startup Ecosystem Index by the global startup research company StartupBlink.
According to the report, Bangladesh's startup ecosystem ranked 4th in South Asia, slightly behind Sri Lanka which ranked 90th overall.
The other two South Asian countries ranked ahead are Pakistan at 76th and India at 19th.
Last year, Bangladesh also ranked 93rd in this ranking, and in 2020, ranked 98th.
Dhaka dropped out of the top 300 cities and currently ranks 326th in this global ranking. However, in the ranking of startup ecosystems in South Asian cities, Dhaka ranks 12th, being 3rd among non-Indian South Asian cities this year.
The Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2022 states that Bangladesh has "strong economic potential" and "top priorities should be improving infrastructure and internet stability".
The ranking observed improvements to the financial investment sector of Bangladesh in 2022 and noted that Bangladeshi startups have been raising funds at a rate almost four times higher than in 2021.
The index also claimed that a majority of this funding came from global investors, and that government projects such as the IDEA Project and Startup Bangladesh Limited with $65 million are helping improve the local startup ecosystem.
In their ecosystem champions section, the ranking mentioned Pathao, 10 Minute School and Arogga as notable Bangladeshi startups.
