Google Photos introduces 2024 Recap feature
Google Photos has launched a new feature called 2024 Recap, which offers users a way to review highlights from their year through selected photos and insights. The feature creates a memory with chosen photos, accompanied by graphics and effects, and is being gradually rolled out.
The 2024 Recap also provides data-based insights, such as the longest streak of photos taken, the person most often photographed, and dominant colours in images. Users can share their recaps and insights directly from the app on social media or messaging platforms, according to an official blog post by Google.
The memories will appear in the Memories carousel throughout December and move to users' photo grids in January. Notifications will inform users when their 2024 Recap is ready.
In the US, some users can access a version enhanced by Google's Gemini AI model. This version includes captions generated by the model, summarising two key moments from the year.
US users who want Gemini-generated captions need to enable Gemini features in the app settings. The feature is now accessible in the Google Photos app.
