Google reportedly planning 'AI Mode' for search engine
Google is reportedly working on integrating a new "AI Mode" into its search engine, offering users an experience akin to its Gemini AI chatbot, according to a recent report by The Information.
The proposed feature would provide users with the option to switch to AI Mode via a tab at the top of the search results page. Once activated, the mode would display conversational responses alongside links to related web pages. A search bar beneath the AI-generated answers would allow users to "Ask a follow-up," for more interactive and iterative searches.
The AI Mode interface is expected to be accessible on the left-hand side of the existing tabs, including "All," "Images," "Videos," and "Shopping." Additionally, 9to5Google uncovered code suggesting that the feature may support voice-based queries, potentially allowing users to interact with AI Mode hands-free.
This development aligns with earlier reports by Android Authority, which noted the presence of an AI Mode in beta versions of the Google app.
