Jeff Bezos to donate most of his assets to charity
Jeff Bezos, the founder of the leading e-commerce company Amazon, has recently stated that he plans on giving away most of his $124 billion net worth to charity. In an exclusive interview with CNN, Bezos stated that aside from donating his fortune to fight climate change and political divisions, he will also strive towards supporting needy people suffering from social setbacks.
According to CNN, this is the first time Bezos has publicly announced giving most of his money away. The current 4th richest person in the world has recently been the subject of much criticism when he refused to sign The Giving Pledge, a campaign funded by some of the richest individuals in the world to donate money for philanthropic causes.
In the CNN interview, Bezos and his partner Lauren Sánchez stated that they are currently planning a feasible and effective way to give away most of Bezos' wealth. When asked exactly how much of his wealth he plans on giving away, Bezos refused to specify an exact percentage or an estimated amount.
Bezos has reportedly poured $10 billion into his Bezos Earth Fund commitment, which aims to fight climate change by reducing carbon footprint and advancing research into monitoring carbon emissions. As per the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement, Amazon has similarly agreed to reduce its carbon footprint by 2040.
Bezos is currently the executive president of Amazon, having stepped down from his previous role of CEO last year.
