Tesla to recall 2,400 Cybertrucks over safety issues
Tesla has announced a recall of 2,431 of its recently launched Cybertruck pickups in the US, citing a potential risk of drive power loss which could heighten the chance of crashes, according to a recent report by Reuters.
The affected trucks, manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, reportedly have a faulty drive inverter—a component essential for delivering power to the vehicle. Tesla explained that this fault could lead to a sudden stop in power output when the accelerator is pressed, posing a safety risk.
The company has pledged to replace the malfunctioning drive inverters free of charge for impacted customers, states a report by Reuters.
This marks Tesla's sixth recall of the Cybertruck model in 2024, which only began deliveries earlier this year after a two-year delay due to production and supply challenges.
Last month, Tesla also said it would recall 27,000 Cybertrucks over an issue with rear-view camera delays, which could affect driver visibility.
Tesla's Cybertruck, with its distinctive angular design, was launched to refresh the company's model lineup and capture new interest amid slowing EV demand. Investors are closely watching the rollout due to its high development costs and Tesla's competitive positioning in the expanding EV market.
