The Trump administration has introduced a new app, CBP Home, aimed at allowing immigrants in the US illegally to voluntarily "self-deport" rather than face potential arrest and detention, as per a recent report by Reuters.

Launched on Monday by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the app includes an option for users to signal their "intent to depart", offering them a chance to leave the country voluntarily and potentially return legally in the future, states the report.

As per the report, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated, "The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don't, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return."

The app replaces 'CBP One', a Biden-era tool that allowed migrants in Mexico to schedule appointments for legal border crossings. Republicans criticised the Biden program, arguing it encouraged mass migration and lacked proper vetting. Trump shut down 'CBP One' hours after taking office, leaving many migrants with pending appointments stranded, adds the Reuters report.

The new app is part of Trump's broader efforts to increase deportations. His administration has also introduced a regulation, set to take effect on April 11, requiring individuals without legal status to register with the federal government or face fines or jail time, further adds Reuters.
