Trump launches meme coin days before White House return
Donald Trump has recently unveiled a new cryptocurrency project, launching a meme coin named '$Trump' just days before his inauguration as the 47th US President, according to recent announcements by his accounts on social media X, and Truth Social.
The announcement sparked initial speculation that his accounts may have been compromised but the posts are still in place suggesting that Trump himself is involved with this project. With a website link, the post from Trump's verified X account states, "My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! It's time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community. GET YOUR $Trump NOW."
According to the website of Trump memes, 200 million $TRUMP is available on day one and will grow to a total of 1 billion $TRUMP over three years. The Trump Memes are fungible crypto assets created and tracked on the Solana blockchain.
The coin's website attributes the project to the same team behind Trump's non-fungible token (NFT) ventures, according to Cointelegraph.
Trump's involvement in cryptocurrency aligns with his interest in digital assets in recent years. Following the release of several non-fungible token (NFT) collections and the introduction of a crypto platform last year, Trump has positioned cryptocurrency as a central element of his policy agenda.
Trump's incoming administration has assembled a technology policy team focused on cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, led by David Sacks, referred to as his "crypto czar." He also plans to issue an executive order prioritising cryptocurrency as a "national imperative" shortly after his inauguration, according to a report by Bloomberg.
