xAI to launch its own app soon: Report
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is preparing to launch its own app for the Grok chatbot as early as December, according to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal.
Musk established xAI in 2023 as an alternative to OpenAI, the company he co-founded but later left over ideological differences. Currently, Grok is accessible exclusively via Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), and only to subscribers. The planned standalone app would mark a significant step in expanding Grok's accessibility and user base.
According to the report, beyond chatbot capabilities, xAI has contributed to developing customer support features for Starlink, a satellite internet service operated by Musk's aerospace company, SpaceX.
Unlike competitors such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude — all of which offer standalone apps and free access tiers — Grok currently lacks a dedicated app and free features, limiting its reach. The upcoming app could level the playing field and attract a broader audience to xAI's services.
