xAI's Grok-2 AI chatbot now free for X users
xAI, the AI company created by Elon Musk, has announced that its new Grok-2 AI chatbot is now free for all users on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
According to xAI, the new version of the Grok chatbot boasts three times faster performance, improved accuracy, better instruction-following, and multilingual support. While this version is free for all X users, premium users will still enjoy higher usage limits and early access to upcoming features.
Grok-2 integrates real-time insights from posts on X and the wider web, offering responses with citations for verification, says xAI. The chatbot can range from answering queries and summarising information to crafting memes and generating photorealistic images using Aurora, its new autoregressive image-generation model. Grok's new 'draw me' feature also allows users to create AI-reimagined versions of themselves based on their X profile.
In addition, xAI has launched the 'Grok button', which appears on posts in users' home timelines, and can help users uncover relevant context and explore trending discussions, says the company. Grok is accessible directly from the X home screen via a dedicated menu on the bottom bar.
