YouTube has announced on 14 May that it will begin using Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model to identify the most engaging segments of videos for advertising placements.

The announcement was made during YouTube's annual Brandcast event, where the platform marked its 20th anniversary and outlined a series of updates aimed at advertisers.

The new tool, called 'Peak Points,' is built with Gemini and designed to locate emotionally resonant or high-interest moments within popular content, allowing brands to position their advertisements where viewer attention is at its highest, according to a recent statement by YouTube.

The event also highlighted other advertising innovations, including expanded cultural sponsorship opportunities and new formats for connected TV. YouTube is also set to host the NFL's Friday night game in Brazil during Kickoff Weekend, making the game available globally without additional fees or subscriptions.
