6 professors, DUAA founding president honoured

Dhaka University Alumni Association today awarded gold medals to six professors and the association's founding president for their outstanding contributions to the society.

The recipients are emeritus professors Sultana Sarwat Ara Zaman, Abdul Matin, Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury, Najma Chowdhury, Anisuzzaman, Serajul Islam Chowdhury, and DUAA founding president Justice Ibrahim Chowdhury (posthumous), reports our DU correspondent.

They were handed over the awards at a function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the campus, marking the 69th founding anniversary of the association.

Bushra Chowdhury, daughter of Prof Nazma Chowdhury, received the award on behalf of his mother while other professors emeriti were present on the occasion.

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said, "The professors have been honoured for their contributions in the arena of knowledge."

Commemorating the DUAA founding members, he said, "DUAA not only has made the infrastructural development of the university but also has enriched the knowledge based arena of the university."

Prof Akhtaruzzaman, acting vice-chancellor of the university, said, "None can evaluate the dignity of Dhaka University teachers as well as Dhaka University since all of them has played a pivotal role in shaping the history of our university"

"These teachers have always been ethical, non-communal, liberal and humanitarian. We should follow their footprints and run the university according to their ideology", he added.

Around 1000 of the alumnus of DU were present at the programme presided over by DUAA president AK Azad.
