Emirates Airlines has partnered up with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to try out the first-ever "digital passport", known as the IATA Travel Pass. The IATA Travel Pass will allow passengers to easily manage their travel documents or clearances digitally, aligning with any government requirements for Covid-19 testing or vaccine information.

The travel pass will be able to verify whether or not a passenger meets the required pre-travel Covid-19 test or vaccination requirements. At the same time, it will help passengers navigate accurate information on updated travel guidelines, entry/exit requirements, nearby testing and vaccination centres and so on.

The app with enable authorised labs to securely send test results/vaccination certificates to passengers, which the passengers will be able to digitally share with the airlines or airport authorities directly before even reaching the airport.

"We are proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to pilot this initiative, which will provide an enhanced customer experience and conveniently facilitate our customers' travel needs," said Adel Al Redha, CEO of Emirates, in an IATA press release.

Emirates will implement the first phase of the project in Dubai in April, before a complete rollout.
