Foodpanda adds first batch of transgender riders to delivery fleet
On-demand food and grocery delivery platform, Foodpanda has onboarded the first batch of transgender riders and has equipped them with bicycles and smartphones. This initiative was made possible with support from TransEnd, an organization dedicated to empowering members of the Bangladeshi transgender community.
As part of this initiative, Foodpanda has trained the riders for several weeks and has furnished them with proper delivery gear so that they can work proudly and independently as Foodpanda riders. Initially, 20 riders have been onboarded in Chattogram and Dhaka. Additionally, several other members of the transgender community have already been working as warehouse staff in Foodpanda's pandamart dark stores.
TransEnd has facilitated the process and supported Foodpanda in hiring and training the riders. Marking the end of their training, a small ceremony was held at the Foodpanda hub office in Chattogram on June 17 2021, where the gears were distributed among the riders.
