2.76 lakh govt posts remain vacant: Minister
State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadeq announced in parliament today that some 2.76 lakh posts have remained vacant with different ministries, divisions and offices of the government.
Of the total vacant posts, 44,542 are first class, 41,326 second class, 1, 21,438 third class and 69,281 are fourth class, the state minister replied to lawmakers’ queries.
In the written reply, she said recruitment of staff is an ongoing process and the Public Service Commission usually appoints first and second class officers against requirements of various ministries and departments.
Different departments and divisions recruit manpower following their respective recruitment policy, she informed the House.
Earlier, the sixth budget session of 10th parliament began at 5:30pm with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
At the beginning of the House proceeding, Speaker nominated a five-member panel of chairmen at the outset of this session.
The panel chairmen will preside over sittings of the House in the absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The panel members are: Abul Kalam Azad, Abdul Matin Khasru, Dhirendra Debnath Shambu, Fakhrul Islam and Begum Shirin Naim.
The above mentioned lawmakers will chair the sittings as per numerical order, the Speaker told the House.
Before the House went into session, the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of parliament was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Speaker in the chair.
Committee members--Sheikh Hasina, PM and Leader of the House, Raushan Ershad, opposition leader, HM Ershad, Jatiya Party chief, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, among others attended the meeting.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith also took part in the BAC meeting on special invitation.
The meeting decided that the budget session will continue till July 9. Budget for the Fiscal 2015-16 will be placed at 3:30pm on June 4 and it will be passed on June 30.
MPs will speak 45 hours on the budget.
Except tomorrow and on the budget day, the session will start at 5:30pm.
During Ramadan, the sitting will start at 10:30am and will continue till 2:30pm.
