3 die as train hits pick-up van in Gazipur
Three people including a college student were killed and four injured as train rammed a pick-up van at a level-crossing in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur this morning.
The deceased were identified as fish farm owner Jahangir Alam, 35, of Baliapara village, hawker Mustafa Kamal, 51, of Kaoraid area in the upazila and college student Likhon, 19, son of Kalim Uddin of Niguari in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.
All of them were travelling,hanging from the door of the Dhaka-bound commuter express from Jamalpur when it hit a pick-up van stationed close to the railway tracks at Golaghat level crossing, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Mohsinul Kadir, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.
The trio died and four other passengers of the train were injured when the train crashed into the van, added the OC.
The driver of the coal-laden van narrowly escaped the accident as he was talking over his mobile phone, standing on the road, witnesses said.
