There are many surprising facts about Hummingbirds you probably do not know about.

They push the limit of metabolic energy. Their average heart rate is 1,200 beats per minute taking 250 breaths in a minute.

Despite how they look, they are extremely aggressive. They regularly attack bigger birds in their territory and fight other hummingbirds over feeders.


Their tongue is like a straw helping pump nectar up quickly. They can drink 10 drops of nectar in 15 milliseconds.

They make great migrations, some travel more than 3000 miles, from Mexico to Canada and back again.

But they have great limits as well. They have no sense of smell, they can't walk and they weigh less than a dime!
