Coca-Cola Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Quincey with some of the beneficiaries of the Women Business Centers.

Coca-Cola Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Quincey announced an additional investment of USD200 million in Bangladesh over the next five years to expand the business.

This was his first ever visit to Bangladesh.

"We have an enduring belief that our business is only as sustainable as the communities in which we operate; that means for our business to grow sustainably, our communities must grow also," he said while addressing a press conference at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden hotel in the capital.

Quincey said Coca-Cola is committed to growing its business in Bangladesh in a sustainable manner and this includes understanding and aligning with the country's priorities.

The company has invested over USD100 million in the country over the past few years.

In 2015, Coca-Cola brought 5by20 (empowering five million women around the world by 2020) to life in Bangladesh by launching the first Women Business Centers (WBC).

By the end of 2020, over 100,000 Bangladeshi women and their families will benefit from the WBCs.

He said the WBC is a unique model that supports rural Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs by providing skill development and financial assistance
