Mujib's murals demolished in Rangpur

Three murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were demolished in Rangpur last night.
Demonstrators also burned an effigy of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and removed nameplates of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) halls named after Sheikh Mujib and his family.
Sheikh Mujib, the founding president of Bangladesh, is known as Bangabandhu (father of the nation).
The protesters also demolished at Carmichael College, and the DC office intersection.
The protest began on the BRUR campus, where demonstrators vandalised and bulldozed a mural of Sheikh Mujib, declaring the site an "Open Stage" (Muktomoncho).
They also removed the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, renaming it Bijoy 24 Hall, and took down the nameplate of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.
The protesters then marched to Carmichael College, where they used hammers and axes to destroy another mural of Sheikh Mujib at the main entrance.
The final mural was bulldozed at the DC office intersection at around 12:45am.
The site was renamed Swadhinata Chattar (Independence Square), and banners featuring Abu Sayed, who was shot dead by police during the mass uprising on July 16, were placed there.
Following the demolitions, a large procession moved through Rangpur, demanding the ban of the Awami League and justice for alleged state violence.
As of now, law enforcement and university authorities have not issued any statements regarding the incident.
