Truck driver beaten to death by mob in Rajshahi for running over two goats

A mob has beaten a truck driver to death in Rajshahi's Puthia upazila after his truck ran over two goats.

The truck driver -- Abu Taleb (33), of Jhalmaliain the upazila-- succumbed to his injuries at Puthia Upazila Health Complex at 3:30am today, Officer-in-charge of Puthia Police Station Rejaul Islam said.

Police detained five locals in this connection, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting the OC.

Quoting witnesses and based on a primary investigation, the OC said Abu Taleb ran over two goats in Shibjait area of Bagmaraupazila around 7:30pm yesterday and tried to flee the scene.

But locals on 10/12 motorcycles chased the truck and stopped it in Basupara area around 8:30pm.They beat up the truck driver with sticks, leaving him unconscious, the police officer said.

Later, some locals took him to the upazila health complex, where he died later.

His body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The helper of the truck went into hiding soon after the incident, the OC said.
