Lost & found: Tale of a Sarail puppy

It was May day – a government holiday. I went out of Dhaka for a vacation leaving my Sarail Hound puppy at home in a teacher’s quarter building at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. The next day, while returning to Dhaka, I got the news that the puppy was missing from the house.

I was shocked. I came back and immediately went out searching for the dog. I searched for my dog everyday from the university campus area to Sher-e-Banglanagar and Gono Bhaban, Agargaon, College Gate and Khamarbari areas in the capital.

I had bought the puppy from Sarail in Brahmanbaria in the month of March.

My search continued for around 45 days. I called the owner of the Hound at Sarail. He was shocked too as he gave me the dog after almost six years of hectic efforts to get a Hound from his locality.

I did not give up hope. But I had stopped going out looking for the dog.

It was the morning of August 14 and it was raining cats and dogs. I was returning from a PMO Official's residence at Gono Bhaban area. When I reached near Gono Bhaban Govt School, opposite of Suhrawardi Hospital, my eyes caught a dog, mostly white, walking through the other side of the road that connects with Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

Within seconds, I noticed that it was my dog. I stopped my bike, walked closer and called him from the opposite side of the road. After 103 days, I have got back my Sarail Hound.

He rushed to me and showed his loyalty. I asked him where he was for so long. After few minutes I lifted him on my bike. He was so emotional. He was happy and comfortable - a happy reunion.

I called one of my younger brothers to come to the spot. He came and I took my dog back home.

I showered him with shampoo, fed him chicken and rice. The dog got back his home and is now comfortable and happy again.

I thanked God that I found my dog again. I informed its previous owner of the happy news. He said he had promised to donate some candles to the Mazaar of the Peer if the dog was found.
