Risky living in Rampura slum (video)
Bangladesh is one of the world's most densely populated countries. Millions of people have settled in slums of Dhaka, a megacity, mostly living in risky settlements after knowing all the possibilities of accidents. The slum people even do not have access to basic amenities.
In Rampura slum, the dwellers have not woken up even after a recent disaster there. A two-storey tin structure housing around 20 families, collapsed into a marshland on April 15, killing 12 people.
The inhabitants of Rampura slum are not aware of the dangerous consequences of living in risky conditions.
Six to seven people cram into a tiny room.
Fatema and her husband came to Dhaka from Barisal five years back with their three children and rented a room in the slum.
Later, Fatema moved into the house which caved in because the owner of the house was a "pious" man and gave some additional facilities like he did not take electricity and television cable bills.
The owner, Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, an activist of Jubo League, youth wing of the ruling Awami League, has been on the run since the collapse.
