Shamima finds fortune in betel nut cutting
Twenty years ago, Shamima Akhter was forced to leave her house because the sound of cutting betel nuts annoyed her neighbours.
Now, pursuing her business, she has not only changed her fate, but has also helped three thousand other poor women in Chittagong's Patiya area.
She created this scope for employment for the impoverished people of Sikalbaha, Char Lakka and Charpatharghata – most of who were previously involved in begging or working as domestic help.
Now, they earn upto Tk 300 on a daily basis by cutting betel nuts for Shamima.
