2 ‘Bangladeshi youths’ injured in UK ‘acid attack’
Two youths reportedly sustained injuries in an acid attack in east London yesterday.
The identities of the victims could not be known. However, British news portal the Mail Online, quoting a shopkeeper, identified them as Bangladeshi youths.
The attack – the latest in a series of similar incidents this summer – took place around 7:00pm on Roman Road in Tower Hamlets, east London on Tuesday, according to the UK daily The Guardian.
Police were called to Roman Road, Bethnal Green, just before 7:00pm last night after the two men begged a shop keeper for help while screaming: “We've got acid on us!,” reports the Mail Online.
The man, who asked not to be named, said their skin was 'peeling' off, while a police officer, who later attended the scene, said 'the colour of their faces had changed where the bleach had been thrown over their faces'.
When describing the incident yesterday, the shopkeeper told the Mail Online: 'They were two Bengali boys who came into the shop. They had acid on their face and they were burning - their skin was peeling off.
“Both have been taken to an east London hospital for treatment after an unknown liquid was thrown at them. Their injuries are not life threatening. No arrest have been made and inquiries are ongoing.” a Metropolitan police spokesman told The Guardian.
The attack comes after five people were left injured after having acid thrown in their faces in North and East London on July 13. Another person was injured in connection with the incident, according to the Mail Online.
