Malaysian actor fined RM1,200 for punching Bangladeshi
Popular actor Sharnaaz Ahmad was fined RM1,200 after he pleaded guilty to punching a Bangladeshi man at a golf club in Kuala Lumpur.
The 32-year-old actor, whose full name is Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad, admitted to punching Gous Ali on his face at Level 1, TPC KL, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, where the victim worked.
The incident took place at about 5.30pm on July 22.
Sharnaaz was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of one year imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
Sharnaaz's lawyer Zulkifli Awang urged the magistrate's court to mete out a lenient sentence as the actor was remorseful.
DPP Nur Farah Adilah Noordin, however, asked the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a lesson to the accused.
Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som imposed a RM1,200 fine which was paid by the actor.
Sharnaaz is best known for his role as 'Lan Todak' in the movie Juvana. He is married to Noor Nabila, who is the sister of popular actress Neelofa.
