Former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam passed away after suffering a massive heart attack in Shillong. He was 84.
Kalam, considered the architect of India's missile programme, collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management around 6:30pm in the Meghalaya state of India, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
He was admitted to a hospital in northeastern town of Shillong following sudden illness.
Kalam fell ill at a function in Shillong and was rushed to the hospital, the correspondent reports quoting M Kharkrang, superintendent of police at Khasi Hills.       
Meghalaya Governor V Shanmughanathan and Chief Secretary PBO Warjri visited Bethany hospital where Kalam was been admitted.
