Salary hike of civil servants in the future might be based on evaluation of all related factors instead of recommendations by a pay commission, Finance Minister AMA Muhith hinted today.

Authorities will decide on the salary hike based on a yearly evaluation report. Inflation rate and all other related aspects will be considered and the report should be submitted before the cabinet, the minister explained.

His comments came a day after the government approved a new pay structure for the civil servants, which saw the civil servants’ basic salaries almost doubling.

“There will be no need of pay commission in the future,” Muhith said while talking to reporters at his office this morning. “We are going to make our decision in principles in this regard.”

Replying to a query, Muhith said, “Whether the next government will keep this provision (pay commission) or not, it is completely their decision to make. I do not see any justification to keep the provision.”
