Saudi king’s aid for Rohingyas arrive
The first consignment of Saudi Arabia's aid for the Rohingya refugees including food, shelter and other relief items has reached Bangladesh.
The King Salman Centre sent 100 tonnes of food, tents, sleeping mats, blankets, said International Organisation for Migration (IOM) who received the aid.
IOM, the UN Migration Agency, chartered a Boeing 747 to transport the aid to Bangladesh and it landed in Chittagong today afternoon, reads a press release of the IOM.
The aid will provide 850 families with tents, mats and bedding to protect from rain and heat, said Mohammed Abdiker, IOM Director of Operations and Emergencies.
A Saudi delegation led by its Director of Urgent Aid Department also flew to Bangladesh to oversee the distribution of relief materials. It will also assess the situation in Cox's Bazar.
Earlier on September 20, Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz also allocated $15 million for the refugees. Saudi Arabia said it would deploy a humanitarian relief team to Bangladesh to help Rohingya Muslim refugees.
