‘Delhi shouldn't misunderstand Dhaka’s position with Beijing’
Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Wednesday said Bangladesh's position with China should not be misunderstood by India and laid emphasis on strengthening Dhaka-Delhi ties.
"There can't be any concern on Indian side," he said while depicting a historical background on Bangladesh's relations with both India and China.
Iqbal Sobhan, also Editor of the Daily Observer and a journalist leader, recalled that China recognised Bangladesh after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman back in 1975.
He was addressing a session at Bangladesh-India Media Dialogue -2018 at a city hotel.
PM's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman chaired the session held with the theme 'Bangladesh-India security concerns and mutual cooperation'. Ekattor TV Chief Editor Mozammel Babu moderated the session.
DBC News Editor Zayadul Ahsan Pintu and ex-editor of Catch News Bharat Bhushan spoke as keynote speakers.
Iqbal Sobhan said they do not consider India as a master but as a friend.
He recalled what India experienced during 2001 and laid emphasis on strengthening ties with pro-liberation forces.
The journalist leader said this is an election year and sought a positive role from Indian media.
On Teesta issue, he said the Indian Prime Minister assured Bangladesh of resolving the issue within the period of the current government. "There have to be serious efforts."
Iqbal Sobhan said laid emphasis on addressing concerns related to border killings and Asam issues.
Earlier, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the media dialogue on Monday.
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister and General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader will attend the closing session of the dialogue on Wednesday as the chief guest.
State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, Deputy High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Dr Adarsh Swaika will be there as special guests.
