Congress files RTI seeking info on Modi’s claim of his arrest for supporting Bangladesh’s independence
An application has been filed under the Right to Information Act (RTI) seeking detailed information about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claim of his arrest and imprisonment for supporting Bangladesh's independence.
Saral Patel, national convener, social media department of Indian National Congress (INC), filed the RTI application with the Public Information Officer of the Indian Prime Minister's Office yesterday, he said in a tweet.
Attending the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, Modi yesterday said he and many of his colleagues observed 'satyagraha' for the freedom of the people of Bangladesh.
"I was arrested and imprisoned for supporting Bangladesh's independence," Modi said.
Seeking details of Modi's arrest date through RTI, Saral Patel asked for a copy of all the relevant documents for the section of Indian law under which Modi was arrested during the Liberation War of Bangladesh and also to know in which jail he was kept.
