Otis Johnson was locked up in jail for 44 years and was recently released from prison to find the world he left behind has vastly changed.

He was 25 when his sentence started and 69 years when he was released, reports Business Insider.

Once outside, he quickly realized the world was a very different place—it was downright futuristic compared to the world he was accustomed to before he was locked up in the late 1960s.

Talking to a news portal Al Jazeera, Johnson talks about his visit to Times Square in New York City, where he was surprised and confused by the modern technology surrounding him: People "with wires in their ears" listening to music who looked like CIA agents, pedestrians "talking to themselves" on their iPhones, and neon video billboards illuminating storefront windows, reports the Business Insider.

It is a fascinating perspective that Johnson offers on our world today and the modern technology we are so used to and often take for granted.
