Youth arrested for raping girl in Jashore

Police arrested a youth on charges of raping an adolescent girl at a village under Manirampur upazila of Jashore yesterday evening.

The arrestee Jahid Hasan, son of Mujibur Rahman, hailed from Dashaani village under Horiharnagar union of the upazila, reports our correspondent quoting Abdur Rahman, sub inspector (SI) of Manirampur police station.

Jahid forcefully took the girl to an abandoned house as she was going out to fetch drinking water from a nearby tube-well and allegedly raped her yesterday evening, said the SI quoting the case statement.

The accused, Jahid, later fled the scene, SI Rahman said, adding that the victim managed to reach her home and inform the matter to her parents.

Police arrested the alleged rapist on the same night, following a case filed by the victim's mother that accused Jahid, said Shikdar Matiur Rahman, Inspector (Investigation) of Manirampur police station.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Jashore, added the police official.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother claimed that the alleged rapist and his family members offered them a large sum of money to conceal the matter and tried to settle down the case with the help of influential locals, but ultimately failed as the victim's family refused to make any compromise in this regard.
