Accident at DU: Students stage demo, demand 'safe campus'
Several hundred students today staged a demonstration at Dhaka University to press home a 11-point demand, including a safe campus.
The protesters issued an ultimatum to the university authorities to meet the demands by December 10 or they will go for tougher programmes.
Earlier on Friday, a 45-year-old woman was killed as a private car hit a motorbike, causing her to fall. The car then dragged the woman, Rubina Akter, over a kilometre on the campus. A former DU teacher was driving the car.
Different groups, including student organisations, have been staging protests since then.
The 11-point demand includes restrictions on vehicular movement on the campus; reduction of sound pollution, justice for Rubina, and installation of CCTV cameras on the campus.
