DU student on fast unto death protesting “mismanagement at Registrar Building”
A Dhaka University student started fast unto death since yesterday (September 20, 2022) in front of the university's administrative building to press home an eight-point demand, including addressing the mismanagement in official services.
Hasnat, a master's student in DU's English department, began the protest programme around 12pm yesterday. But he fell sick this afternoon.
However, he said he won't break his hunger strike until his demands are met, reports our DU correspondent.
Before starting the hunger strike, Hasnat met DU Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman yesterday to place his demands. But the VC expressed dissatisfaction over his activities, Hasnat claimed.
Coming out of the VC office, Hasnat started the hunger strike.
On August 30, Hasnat had held a sit in programme demanding the same and gave an ultimatum to the university authorities to meet his demands within 10 working days.
But the authorities of university did not respond yet.
Students of Dhaka University frequently allege that when they go to the Registrar building seeking academic services, officials misbehave with them.
Hasnat told The Daily Star that he went to the Registrar building a few days ago to resolve an academic issue. He did not get proper service, he claimed.
Hasnat's demands include forming a complaint cell for ensuring accountability of administrative officials and stopping harassment of students; digitalisation of all administrative activities within a short time and setting up CCTV cameras in all offices for ensuring safety.
