PUST employees continue demo on 2nd day
A group of officers and employees of Pabna University of Science and Technology continued their demonstration for the second consecutive day today to press home their 17-point demands, including recruitment and upgradation of workers and employees.
The demonstration began at the university yesterday as the agitating officers and employees locked the registrar office to press home their demands, hampering the administrative work of the university, reports our Pabna correspondent.
The demonstrators said they would continue the agitation until their demands fulfilled.
Md Sohag Hossain, secretary of PUST Officers' Association said they put 17-point demands on January 24 but the authority is reluctant about the demands.
"For the sake of professional development we placed the demands. We are feeling uncertainty in job upgradation as VC Rostom Ali will complete his four years' tenure on March 6. Besides, no decision came for holding further meeting during this VC's tenure," said Sohag.
Bijon Kumar Brommah, acting registrar of PUST, said the university authorities formed separate committees to meet job related issues but agitation began before getting decision.
Talking to this correspondent, VC Md Rostom Ali said this is a not job related agitation. Some employees went for agitation for their personal interest.
"Through the demonstration, they want to pressure the authority for removing suspension orders of some staffers. The agitation is planned." The VC said.
