Ragging: 20 injured in BCL infighting at CU
At least 20 activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League of Chittagong University unit were injured last night during a clash between two groups over ragging a junior activist on campus.
The injured received primary treatment from CU Medical Centre, reports a correspondent quoting Tipu Sultan, on-duty doctor of the medical centre.
According to CU sources, BCL activist Bayezid Bostami, loyal to BCL group "Sixty Nine", along with his friends went to the canteen of Masterda Surya Sen Hall around 1:30 pm yesterday.
At the time, some BCL activists, loyal to another group "Apitaf" confined him and his friends for four hours and ragged them. They were later released at 5:30 pm yesterday, said the sources.
As the victim shared the incident with his group at night, activists of Sixty Nine group rushed to the hall around 10:00 pm last night and a clash broke out between the two groups where 20 activists from both groups were injured, according to eye-witnesses.
Iqbal Tipu, general secretary of CU unit BCL said they heard about the incident and are trying to resolve the matter.
On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, said CU acting Proctor Shahidul Islam.
He said they were looking into the matter.
