34-yr-old dies from breathing complication at isolation ward in Shariatpur
A 34-year-old man died from breathing complication today while undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
"The man, hailing from Kolargaon village under Naria upazila, was admitted to the isolation ward with severe breathing problems yesterday. He died at around 3:45pm today," Dr Munir Ahmed Khan, superintendent of the hospital, told The Daily Star.
"We collected samples from the man for coronavirus test yesterday. The samples were sent to the IEDCR," he said.
The body would be cremated according to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Munir added.
"A 90-year-old man of Dingamanik union under Naria upazila died of coronavirus on April 4. This patient also hailed from the same area," said Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Naria Police Station.
Contacted, Joyanti Rupa Roy, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Naria, said, "Some 86 people of 18 families located around the deceased's house have been placed under home quarantine as per precaution."
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old woman of Dhamshe village under Shariatpur Sadar upazila was admitted to the isolation ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital with coronavirus-like symptoms this morning, Dr Munir said.
The patient previously had minor breathing complication but the condition has aggravated along with fever and dry cough for around a week, the doctor said, adding that the patient is in critical condition.
"The samples of the woman were collected for coronavirus testing. We will sent the samples to the IEDCR tomorrow," he added.
"The woman's family has been placed under home quarantine as per precaution," said Md Mahabur Rahman Sheikh, UNO of Shariatpur Sadar upazila.
