Abducted 11-year-old girl rescued after 16 days in Sherpur
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rescued an 11-year-old girl from Sherpur town this morning, 16 days after she was abducted allegedly by one of her neighbours in Sherpur's Sreebardi upazila.
The girl, a sixth-grader, is a resident of the upazila's Kawnerchar Paschimpara village, went missing from her home on September 21.
The following day, the victim's father filed an abduction case accusing 12 people including neighbour Saidur Rahman (21) with the women and children repression prevention tribunal in Sherpur, said Faruk Hossain, sub-inspector of PBI, also investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Saidur along with his cohorts forcibly took her to an undisclosed location from her home on September 21, the IO said quoting the case statement.
Upon information from locals, a team of PBI spotted the girl roaming on a road at Chakpathak area in Sherpur town around 8:30am and rescued the girl, said the IO.
The girl was produced before the court this afternoon and the court recorded her statement, said the IO, adding, after recording the statement, the court handed over the girl to her parents.
"We are investigating the matter of the abduction," said MM Salauddin, superintendent of police of PBI in Jamalpur-Sherpur.
