Bangladesh National Museum renovates Musical Instrument Gallery

In order to reach out to the audience with the history of instruments and help people muster more knowledge, Bangladesh National Museum has refurbished its Musical Instrument Gallery after six years. Yesterday, Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General, Bangladesh National Museum, inaugurated Gallery 28, which will be known as the Musical Instrument Gallery, in a ceremony at Sufia Kamal Hall of the museum.

During the inauguration, guests talked about the different kinds of instruments in the gallery and how hard the entire team of the museum worked for the outcome. Faizul Latif Chowdhury played a vital role in modernising the gallery. The ceremony was presided by Md Shawkat Nabi, Secretary, Bangladesh National Museum.

“The renovation of this gallery is not our only achievement. Since 1983, two galleries, 45 and 26, have always been neglected. When I took the responsibility in 2014, it needed renovation and eight of the galleries were empty, which included the Musical Instrument Gallery,” says Faizul Latif Chowdhury. “I now delightfully announce that all 45 galleries of Bangladesh National Museum are accessible to art lovers.”

The gallery is now beautifully redecorated with a gramophone, sarod, ektara, dotara, tintara and many more instruments. The diagrams of these instruments, along with their brief histories are also available at the gallery, which is now open for all.
